Introducing “Beatmatching Genius”!

Over the past months I have had a number of emails from students having problems with their beatmatching. So as a result I decided to create something special that was a massive help to myself way back in the day when I was learning how to DJ.

Back then I was lucky enough to get my hands on a very handy piece of vinyl. To this day I’m not actually sure if it was created for the purpose I was taught to use it, but never the less it was brilliant!

What is it you ask?

It’s a unique 12” vinyl that on one side has a very simple continuous loop – perfect for practicing your beatmatching right? Let me explain why!

As the loop was so basic and it never changed it didn’t matter where I dropped in the track I was trying to mix in, I only needed to match up the beats, I didn’t need to worry about the bars and phrases (which was good as I didn’t even know what bars and phrases were at that point).

Because it was continuous it would never annoyingly drop into break downs so that I lost my mix, and because it ran for so long I had all the time I needed to really have a crack at mixing the new track completely in.

Also due to the loops simplicity it made matching the beats much easier, there were no crazy sounds taking away my focus  – the idea was that once I thought I had them matched I’d try and keep them matched for the rest of the loop, pulling the mix back into line when required!

Unfortunately for those using vinyl turntables I don’t think they make what I am talking about any more, BUT for those using CD it’s your lucky day!  I‘ve finally found some time to put together my own and I’ve called it “beat mixing genius”

Obviously the idea of beatmixing is to get two separate tracks playing in perfect sync. But when starting out it can become frustrating and confusing with everything going on trying to separate the different sounds and tracks inside your head.

Beatmatching genius will help take away that frustrating confusion and simplify what you are trying to do – once you master how to beat mix using beatmatching genius you will be in a much better position to start matching bars and phrases and tracks that are throwing up distracting annoyances!

Getting Started with Beat Mixing Genius!

To get started download the mp3 loop by clicking on the download button below and burn it to CD so that you can use it with your CDJs Once you have burnt the beatmatching genius loop to CD all you need to do is put it into one of your decks and hit play.

It will play a basic continuous loop for 20 minutes which allows you plenty of time to practice mixing in the second track.

Once you think you have both beats in sync you need to try and keep them locked in for the rest of the loop – making adjustments faster or slower as needed.

The idea of beatmatching genius is to break down the learning and make it as simple as possible. I am confident that if used correctly it will fast track your beat mixing development as it did mine all those years ago!
