how to find dj music How to find DJ music

When I began Djing, the best way to find the latest DJ music was by trekking halfway across Melbourne to my record store on a Tuesday afternoon to meet the weekly shipment from overseas.

I would then spend literally the next couple of hours sorting through the “new releases” trying to find my next big tune before the guy next to me, or the guy next to him (it was first in best dressed) beat me to the punch. At the time it was a thrill but looking back now it seems like such a mission considering the widespread availability of DJ music now with DJ music download sites popping up all over the internet.

To say the evolution of technology and in particular the shift from the traditional record turntable to the CD deck has changed DJing massively is a gross understatement. In the beginning some DJs were reluctant to embrace the digital age, in hindsight it’s that evolution that has made DJing so accessible and great today.

How to find the best DJ music

Before you begin your tune shopping you need to identify the type and style of music you would like to play, then start making a mental note of the different producers and DJs within that style you like most and start searching their websites and social networking pages for playlists and recommended tunes. The more time you spend clicking away searching these sites the bigger and faster your snowball of music knowledge will grow, and ultimately the more addictive it will become.

Another good place to start is by checking the DJ charts and playlists on your favorite DJ music download stores. Look for charts and playlists from your favorite DJs and producers – you will be surprised what you will find.

Listen your way through all the charts; take note of the different artists and DJs you come across, dig deeper in the genres you find yourself listening to most and lastly look for sites that offer small samples to help you decide.

My favourite online stores at the moment are Juno Download and the new DJ Tunes. To check out the new DJ Tunes click on the link below, it has an easy to use interface with an awesome internal search engine to help you drill down and find the tunes you love!
